Where Hope Grows
Wendy made the decision to donate her son’s tissue after she lost him in an accident in 2007. Over 70 people have benefited from his donation. The Wisconsin Tissue Bank (WTB) is a non-profit program providing tissue procurement services to the state of Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Tissue Bank handles organ donation, works with organ donors, provides organ donation information and organ transplantation.
The Wisconsin Tissue Bank is dedicated to the education of health care professionals and the public to promote organ and tissue donation. The Wisconsin Tissue Bank promotes an environment sensitive to the physical, emotional, spiritual, social and economic needs of both those served and those who provide the service.
About us The Wisconsin Tissue Bank staff provides service to hospitals, Medical Examiners/Coroners and Funeral Directors throughout the state of Wisconsin for the recovery of bone, related soft tissue, veins, skin, and cardiovascular tissue for donation and transplantation.
Wisconsin Tissue Bank adheres to federal guidelines and partners with hospitals to provide the opportunity of tissue donation. Together we will work to ensure that all families of potential donors are treated with the utmost respect and are provided with accurate, complete information in order to make an informed consent or decline to donation.
The Wisconsin Tissue Bank understands that each hospital it works with is unique and provides a tremendous service to its community. It is for that very reason that we will work to meet your hospital’s specific needs; ultimately providing the very best for the families you care for. Medical Examiners & Coroners The Wisconsin Tissue Bank has working relationships with Coroners and Medical Examiners throughout the state. We have been actively involved in education to promote the reporting of deaths and identify the potential for donation. As in any case, a WTB Coordinator is always available to discuss the option of donation with a potential donor family via the telephone. It is the WTB Coordinators responsibility to discuss each case with the Coroner or Medical Examiner prior to approaching the family. Funeral Directors Funeral Directors are an integral partner in donation and tissue recovery. WTB has worked diligently with funeral directors throughout the state to promote positive relationships. Each recovery case is reviewed with the funeral director before and after the recovery to facilitate the donor family's request and the funeral directors responsibilities.
For questions or concerns regarding care following tissue recovery please contact the Wisconsin Tissue Bank at 800-722-8230.
The Wisconsin Tissue Bank strongly believes that donors and their families are the most important element in our work, and that they are entitled to respect, compassionate care and a commitment to the protection and optimal use of their precious gifts. The Wisconsin Tissue Bank provides aftercare services to all tissue donor families. Bereavement materials and informational resources are provided free of charge to the families we work with to help in the healing process. |
