Master of Science in Transfusion Medicine (TRME)
The Transfusion Medicine program is an ongoing collaboration between Marquette University and BloodCenter of Wisconsin. After successful completion of BloodCenter of Wisconsin's SBB Program, students have the opportunity to continue their studies toward a Master of Science degree at Marquette University.
Students choose to specialize in 1 of 3 areas:
The first 18 credits, consisting of the SBB Program, must be completed at BloodCenter of Wisconsin within 2 years of starting the program. An additional 21-22 credits are completed exclusively at Marquette University. (SBB students have the option to enroll at Marquette prior to completing the SBB Program if it does not interfere with their coursework at BloodCenter of Wisconsin.)
Master’s requirements
Please note: Applicants must be enrolled in BloodCenter of Wisconsin's independent course of study, the Specialist in Blood Banking Technology Program, in order to be eligible to apply for the Master of Science program in Transfusion Medicine at Marquette University.
A student in the Transfusion Medicine program must complete a minimum of 39 credit hours of graduate-level course work:
- 18 credit hours in transfusion medicine (TRME) courses offered at BloodCenter of Wisconsin.
- 19 credit hours in the business administration specialty, OR 18 credit hours in the education or science sub specialties.
- 3 credit hours of capstone essay work. (Under certain conditions, a student may complete an additional 3 credit hours of coursework and write a thesis instead of an essay.)
Master’s application process
Admission to the Master’s Degree in Transfusion Medicine (TRME) Program requires that the student submit an application to the Marquette University Graduate School. This application process requires the following:
- A completed application form and application fee.
- Official transcripts from all current and previous colleges (except Marquette University).
- Three letters of recommendation.
- Scores from the GRE (for international applicants only).
TOEFL score or other acceptable proof of English proficiency (for international applicants only).
